Seated Parian Figure of the Duke of Wellington
A stunning Parian porcelain figure of The Duke of Wellington deep in contemplation.
Sculpted by Samuel Alcock & Co. to commemorate the Dukes death in 1852.
The Duke of Wellington is perhaps best remembered as a military commander and General, cementing his immortality by conquering the ‘Conqueror of the World’; Napoleon, when he defeated him in 1815 at the Battle of Waterloo.
His political career was perhaps marred by his inflexibility in the face of reform and his reactionary viewpoints, but served two periods as Prime Minister of Great Britain under the Tory Party.
Favourable historians remember him as an exceptional General and a devoted public servant.
